| "I'm in prison for telling the
truth. The matters that I have brought to the attention of the public are vital
issues for our democracy. I should be protected not prosecuted. Rather than
suppressing whistleblowers the government should set up an independent body to investigate
these disclosures. MI5 and MI6 should not be able to hide behind the secrecy
legislation. If agents were paid for an
assasination attempt that resulted in the murder of innocent people, those who paid them
are the real criminals. If Libya had an extradition treaty with the UK they would
be sent to Libya to stand trial. Presumably other people in MI5 and MI6 know the
details of this story and they should now examine their consciences.
It is clear that MI6 is acting outside government control.
The government is too naive in accepting one version of this story on trust from
MI6. The government has had one year to take action - why was I arrested just after
the Mail on Sunday submitted this story for approval? I find it astonishing that the
government has decided to prosecute me."
